Each year, more than 500 people volunteer at the Minneapolis Public Library reading to children, tutoring adults, delivering materials to seniors, and performing countless other valued services. Volunteers greatly expand the scope of library services and enrich the lives of others.

Volunteering with The Friends

NEW!  Event Assistant: Greet audience members at events, assist with check-in and registration for lectures and readings, handout programs and materials, and assist with room set-up and clean-up . Looking outgoing, friendly, and professional applicants who feel comfortable interacting with people from all walks of life including the general public, donors, civic officials, and authors. Neighborhood Liaison:  Serve as volunteer liaisons between FMPL and neighborhoods in order to communicate our libraries’ value and needs at the grassroots level.  Highly motivated, civically engaged library advocates. Click here to apply!

Friends of The Library: Help with clerical tasks. Help coordinate library programs. Click here to apply!

Friends Book Store: Staff the Friends Book Store. Sort and price books. Help with special sales. Click here to apply!

Volunteering at The Library

NEW! Conversation Circle Facilitators: Provide a welcoming and informal environment for adult and/or teen English language learners to cultivate conversation and language skills. Click here to apply!

Book Delivery Service: Deliver library materials to residents unable to visit the library because of illness or limited mobility. Click here to apply!

Welcome Desk Greeter: Create a warm and welcoming environment for library visitors. Greet people as they enter the library building, answer their questions, and direct them to appropriate staff as needed.  Click here to apply!

Library Tour Docent: Give tours to the public of the Minneapolis Central Library beginning in late Spring 2006.  Click here to apply!

Read To Me: Share the joy of books and reading with young children at selected shelters, crisis nurseries, and other community agencies. Click here to apply!

Community Outreach Volunteer: Assist Library staff members at community events, such as fairs, parent nights at schools, and other outreach events.Click here to apply!

Tech Center Classroom Assistant: Assist classroom instructor in helping students learn computer basics, computer applications, and fundamentals of Internet and email.  Click here to apply!

Homework Helper Computer Assistant: Assist students in using the Live Homework Help online program, online databases, and online card catalog. Click here to apply!

Adult Basic Skills Assistant: Assist ABE instructor in teaching basics of English, reading, and/or math to adults. A Saturday opportunity.  Click here to apply!
