Minerva Circle
A statue of Minerva has welcomed patrons to the Minneapolis Central Library since it opened in 1889. Minerva is the ancient Roman goddess of wisdom, learning, and the arts. She is also the protector of libraries.
By joining The Friends’ Minerva Circle at
$1,000 or more, you can help to protect and strengthen libraries
in Minneapolis.
Last year, The Friends – led by our Minerva
Circle members – provided $1,000,000 to our library for new books.
We raised $500,000 for updated computers at our community libraries.
Perhaps most importantly, our advocacy efforts have helped pave the
way for the consolidation of the Minneapolis Public Library and the
Hennepin County Library and resulted in the reopening of three
temporarily closed Minneapolis libraries. None of this could have
happened without the strong support of our Minerva donors!
In June The Friends were honored by the American
Library Association with the Baker & Taylor Award for the nation’s
most outstanding Friends group. A recent Star Tribune editorial
read: “Hats off to The Friends of the Minneapolis Public Libraries,
who went from being a nice bunch of volunteers to a major community
fundraising force almost overnight … It will be important to the
success of the pending merger of the city’s library system with
Hennepin County’s to keep this newly muscular Friends group going
strong.”
Please consider joining or renewing your
support of the Minerva Circle today with a gift of $1,000 or more,
which can be paid monthly or quarterly. However, gifts of any size
are appreciated.
Your support would made a great difference to
families and children, teens, new immigrants, artists,
entrepreneurs, and countless others who depend on up-to-date
libraries that are open.
