Give
There has never been a more important time to support The Friends, or to increase your involvement if you are already a member.
Nationwide, the demand for library services, open access to books and computers, educational opportunities that support lifelong learning, and free public meeting spaces is continuing to rise. From toddlers to teens, new immigrants to new entrepreneurs, people are flocking to their libraries.
But in Minneapolis, we face unique challenges.
On January 1, the Minneapolis and Hennepin County library systems
united. This new system now has 41 locations with more than 5
million items in 40 languages and 1,600 public access computers.
In Minneapolis, this consolidation is a step to help reverse the
years of chronic under funding of library operations, but the need
for private support to provide critically needed services – over
and above operations – for collections, technology, and programs
is needed now more than ever.
At such a time, Friends make the difference. Last year, we provided MPL with more than $7 million in direct financial and programmatic support. In addition, our advocacy efforts provided millions more for capital improvements throughout our library system.
Membership
begins at just $25. Please consider joining our membership or honoring someone through our memorial and honorific gift
program.
All contributions to The Friends of the Minneapolis Public Library are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by the law. |
