CHILDISH FILMS @ THE LIBRARY

This Fall The Friends will present Childish Films @ the Library, a program of classic, independent and new world cinema for ages 3 and up. Presented by Deb Girdwood and Isabelle Harder, children's film curators for the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival, each screening features a pre-show activity. Whole Foods Market will provide complimentary healthy snacks. Admission is free with open seating to the public. ONCE UPON A TIME

Listen to storytelling by Wendy Knox from The Children’s Theatre Company and watch a double-feature of centuries-old fairytales adapted for the screen.
• The Tender Tale of Cinderella Penguin © National Film Board of Canada, 1981.  In this version of Cinderella, everyone is a penguin--even the mice--and the slipper is a flipper. 9 min.
• The Princess and the Goatboy. Dir. Bruno Bottge, Germany. In this beautiful tale, done in silhouette animation, the king disapproves of his daughter's romance with a goat boy. The princess becomes ill and only the goat boy can save her. 12 min.

DOTS AND LINES

Make art with the Walker Art Center staff and watch a collection of shorts that celebrate expressive dots, lines, and squiggles.
The Dot and the Line © MGM, 1965. Based on the book by Norman Juster and directed by Chuck Jones, this visually amusing tale is about a line trying to impress a dot, who is crazy about a squiggle. 10 min. ·
Harold and the Purple Crayon © Weston Woods, 1971. Based on the book by Crockett Johnson and directed by David Piel. Harold uses his purple crayon to draw and explore whatever he imagines. 7 min. ·
The Dot © Weston Woods, 2004. Based on book by Peter Reynolds, animated by FableVision. Vashti is a frustrated grade school artist. Lines don’t work for her, but then she discovers The Dot. 7 min.

Adventures of Milo and Otis © Columbia Pictures, 1989. A live-action feature about the adventures of a little orange kitten, Milo, and a pug puppy named Otis.
