Volunteer Neighborhood
Liaison
The Friends of the
Minneapolis Public Library is seeking
motivated, civically engaged library
advocates to serve as volunteer liaisons
between The Friends and neighborhoods in order to
communicate our libraries’ value and needs
at the grassroots level.
Neighborhood Liaison Responsibilities:
ü Remain up-to-date on library
news and advocacy needs through updates
provided by The Friends.
ü Present The Friends and the
Library updates
to neighborhood association meetings and
other community events.
ü Relay personal and community
feedback to The Friends.
ü Alert The Friends to advocacy and
outreach opportunities in your
neighborhood.
Qualifications:
ü Active in your neighborhood,
such as participation with neighborhood
association(s) and/or community groups.
ü Familiarity with and a
passion for the Minneapolis Public
Library System.
ü Ability to engage with
others on library news and advocacy
opportunities with a professional
candor.
ü Willingness to commit 2-5
hours a month in this volunteer role.
FMPL’s Responsibilities to Neighborhood
Liaisons:
ü Regular updates on library
news, including beyond-the-headlines
insider news.
ü Constant staff support for
all other questions and concerns.
ü Advocacy tools, such as
talking points and fact sheets.
